The overall theme of The ITA-COSUF Workshop 14th – 15th November 2019 are safety concepts, technical installations and improvements in tunnel safety in Austria. ITA COSUF is also inviting to a technical visit in the Arlberg tunnel and a closer look to safety concept and technology in this complex road and rail tunnel.
We where invited to witness a full scale low pressure water-mist fire test in the well-known Applus+ "San Pedro de Anes" Experimental Centre, last week. The host of the event was VID Fire Kill ApS, a danish based Low Pressure Watermist manufacturer. The test was performed in a 600 meter long test tunnel.
Experts from businesses and public bodies from all over the world use the well-known Hagerbach Test Gallery in Switzerland to perform research, development, testing and full-scale experiments. The VersuchsStollen Hagerbach AG facilitate cooperation between companies, associations and research institutes, to improve construction, operation and safety of tunnels with a professional approach.
In desember 2017, we visited the International Fire Academy in Balsthal, Switzerland. A special designed tunnel fire training facility, where fire fighters from all over Europe train basic skills for rescue and fire fighting in tunnels. The purpose for the technical visit was to study best practice, an important input to an ongoing study in Norway.
